What role has the support of other women played in your success?

Through the opposition and ironies of life, it is so true that women from all walks of life can really make a difference in the quality of one’s life, and so I am so blessed that I have always had the support of so many women during the various seasons of my life. Most of these women are former teachers, doctors, co-workers, neighbors, colleagues, church members, are in heaven, and/or are random women that I meet as I am going about.

However, I would never get into heaven if I didn’t first honor my mother and grandmother since they were the first women that taught me how to provide for myself. They also shed light on the expression of discontent that many women have had to overcome due to persistent injustices throughout history in regards to racism. My blood sisters, mud pie sisters, and former classmates also played a significant part in my life. To this day we pray together, celebrate, share ideas, and support one another when our backs are up against the wall.

What would you tell other women about overcoming obstacles?

First and foremost, always remember that you are God’s partner and His personal representative of His work. Secondly, pray and ask God to help you over your obstacles, identify who is with you, recognize when God is taking you to a new season in your work, shake the dust off, and press on. Finally, be encouraging, help others, and always remember once you reach new levels that there are always new devils. So, always work hard in order to cultivate your stated goals by means of serious caution, sensitivity, healing, integrity, and God’s power!

What does receiving the Onyx Woman Leadership award mean to you?

Receiving the Onyx Woman Leadership award is such a blessing and a privilege. It is of great value to me to be recognized as a female leader as well as for the right people to take notice of those qualities.
