Pennsylvania State Committee Woman

Brenda Tate is a lifelong resident of the Pittsburgh Hill District.  She was  recent  elected to State Democratic Committee were she now represents her district. She is a retired Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Officer where she served in the field of Law Enforcement for a total 40 years. She was a Pittsburgh Police Officer for the past 35 years and a Housing Authority Police Officer for 5 years. She was one of the first female officers to serve in that capacity.

During her career she has distinguished herself as one of the first African American Women assigned to foot patrol with the City of Pittsburgh Housing Authority Police Department. As a Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Detective she served in the Sex Assault Unit, Witness Protection Unit, EAP, and Pittsburgh Initiative to Reduce Crime (PIRC) Unit. She has also provided protective services for 3 Presidents (Clinton, Bush, & Obama) and other high level Government officials, including Kings, Queens and dignitaries from both the United States and abroad. In addition she has served her community as a Community Activist, and in leadership positions with Boy Scouts of America Troop #59 and ScoutReach Urban Scouting, The Centre Avenue YMCA Board, Hill House Board, Ebenezer Development Corp., Lower Hill Working Group, Urban Pathway Charter School Board, and The New Dawn Ministry “Winner in You” Program, instructing young girls in etiquette and Youth Mentorship Programs.

She is a member of other numerous organizations; including Life member of the NAACP and the Urban League of Pittsburgh. She is a Pennsylvania State Addiction Counselor, an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor.

Brenda Tate is the mother of two sons; James E. Tate Jr. and Demetrius J. Tate and a proud Grandmother. She has been a member in good standing of Ebenezer Baptist Church since 1988 where she is involved in the Women’s Mission Ministry Senior Usher Board. She has performed missionary duty in Africa, and in Eastern and Western Europe. She has served as chair of the Ebenezer Trustee Board.

Ms. Tate has committed her life to serving the Lord, her community, the City of Pittsburgh and beyond, and to the many young boys and girls of this city.
