What has been your greatest inspiration?
I often think, what if our ancestors had access to what we have now? My motto has been “get online or get left behind”, but additionally, it’s also about the quality of your engagement when you’re on there. Who knew that a computer and Wi-Fi would change my life? Technology and all you can do with it is truly inspiring and I’m excited about the possibilities on the horizon.
What advice would you give to anyone about following their dreams?
Don’t believe that if you build it they will come. Don’t quit your day job. Instead, find one what is complementary to your dreams and use it to fund the process. Don’t take everything so personally. And yes, most people do business with people they like, so it’s important to be nice and humble.
What is the biggest career or business mistake that you have ever made?
I’ve suffered from what they call analysis paralysis. Meaning, I have a tendency to overthink things. I have gotten better, but I think it has caused me to miss opportunities in the past and also leave great ideas on the table. I’ve talked myself out of things because it wasn’t perfect or ready to me. Seizing the moment is crucial in business and not taking action fast enough can often leave you with regrets.
What was the best thing that you have ever done that got you to where you are today?
There have been many things, each impacting in their own way, that have collectively helped to forge the path and place me where I currently stand today. However, one of the best and most recent has been obtaining minority certification with the Eastern Minority Supplier Development Council. Through this organization, I have been able to network with and learn from minority businesses that are on levels that Soul Pitt plans to one day reach.
What would you tell your younger self?
Marry that man, write that book, watch what you eat and whatever you do, don’t ever settle for less than what you deserve.
When did you first become aware of your purpose?
There comes a time when you just know this is what God is leading you to do. Even though people try to block you or even when you commit self-sabotaging acts, it’s crazy how things STILL fall into place. Doors still continue to open; you still keep getting recognized – that’s when you just know. You no longer fight it. You just listen and grow that purpose until it’s time for your next chapter.:
